More than a decade, around a hundred foreign performances, hundreds of foreign guests from more than fifty countries on five continents… This is the history of the Budapest Contemporary Drama Festival in numbers. The original goal since 1997 has been the promotion and encouragement of contemporary playwriting. Today the festival has expanded: the Seventh Contemporary Drama Festival wants to familiarize the audience and critics with the new paths and developments of European playwriting, so far unknown here in Hungary. The Festival will also introduce Hungarian and foreign critics to progressive workshops that are keeping pace with the various movements and changes of our contemporary theatre. In other words, we are searching for the new, the progressive even in the contemporary.
